Construction Activity Update
Week of November 23rd, 2009
- There will be no work taking place on Thursday, November 26th, in lieu of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Utility Work
- Excavation, shoring, and installation activities will continue for the tel-data ducts across Western Avenue near the Genzyme entrance and Soldiers Field Garage.
- Travel lanes in both directions and access to the surrounding buildings will be maintained throughout the work.
- Traffic control devices, signage, and police details will be utilized to ensure vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian safety during the work.
- Test pits will be completed on Travis St. this week. Parking will taken during this work and signage will be posted.
- All work zones will be protected and trenches will be plated when no work is occurring.
- Three parking spaces were removed on the south side of Western Avenue to accommodate the work.
- Exploratory test pits may be excavated in Travis Street in preparation for future utility work in the street.
Construction Activities
- Concrete placement for the ground level slab is scheduled to be performed on Tuesday, November 24th, weather permitting.
- Reinforcement steel bar and forms will be placed for the next ground level concrete slab placement as well as for the utility tunnel opening.
- Supportive steel and metal decking will continue to be installed for the ground and subsurface level slabs.
- Waterproofing operations will continue to be performed on the western exterior foundation wall.
- Flow filling will continue to be performed in the space between the foundation wall and slurry wall on the western side of the site.
- Winter weather protecting items (i.e. sand and salt) will continue to be installed around the site.
- A second round of soil characterization activities, which will involve drilling, will commence in the parking lot and field behind the Honan-Allston Library.
GENERAL ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
- Office and maintenance staff from 114 Western Avenue may be observed within the site over the weekend.
- Surveying activities will continue to be performed within and around the project site.
- Truck staging will continue to occur within the 108-110 Western Avenue parking lot.
- Police details will continue to be used to ensure vehicle and pedestrian safety at site gates and around the site.
- A street sweeper will continue to be used to keep the surrounding streets clean.
- Noise and dust monitoring will continue to be performed to ensure levels are below the approved limits.
- The pest control contractor will continue to perform routine monitoring activities around the site throughout the week.
- General clean-up activities and safety coordination will continue to be performed around the site.
